Government in Ancient Rome

The Romans had a mix of democracy and republic. They first were a democracy but then they changed to republic. At first people made the decisions but then emperors came and started making the decisions and not people. Barbarians enforced the laws on the citizens in Rome. Their military was efficient, exacting, organized, and victorious. The Roman empire fell to bad decisions made by themselves. The Roman Republic was set up in 500 B.C. In 50 B.C. generals began to take over government. But if you became a Senate you were a Senate for the rest of your life. Consuls controlled the army, the start of war or not, the amount of taxes paid, and choose the laws. Women were not allowed in the Senate and couldn’t be consuls. This is a little about the government in Ancient Rome!
